The microchip is a transponder that is implanted under the skin on the left side of the neck in dogs and cats. The chip acts as an individual identification number and is mandatory for dogs in comparison to cats. Dogs must also be registered in the official “Amicus” database. We also generally advise cats to be chipped. Regardless of whether the cats are only kept indoors or live outdoors. If they run away or are chased away by other cats in a territorial fight, the owner can easily be found again using a microchip.
